December 30th - Travel Day

Jeff and Janie awoke at 4:20 am to get Janie's retirement trip started to the Big Island of Hawaii.  Let's start with 7:00 a.m. departure to LA on SWA.  Still can't wait for new airport!  Easy drive, on time shuttle, no security line and on time departure.  Pretty much text book morning to start a trip.

Arrival in LA included a two time "Go Around" for landing due to weather and traffic spacing (i.e. plane still on runway).  There was a pretty long wait for luggage and shuttle bus to Fox Car Rental.  We drove our first KIA Soul (midsized SUV in rental car vernacular).  Unfortunately rainy day, and the JP Getty museum tickets sold out for day.

We stopped close by to a little pizza joint for lunch, which hit the spot!

The second location was the Observatory.  Even though driving in the rain in LA is not fun, the Park is a LA version of Central Park in NYC with hills.  If it had been sunny we would have done more hiking around and taking in the views  As such a relatively quick visit.

Next we headed off to find a DSW for sandals and socks for Janie and Walmart for rain ponchos. Success finally at Dicks Sporting Goods on the socks and ponchos (cheap) and Janie realized she had not forgotten her comfy walking sandals after all.  The rain slowed, so we followed the Pacific Coast Hwy drive to hotel, drop of rental car and dinner at the Hyatt Regency.  The internet said the Historical Restaurant in the Circle of LAX was open, however, we quickly learned not true.  Thank goodness as we would have had to walk in the rain.

An early to sleep for us both.
