January 2nd - Tour Northern tip of the Island

5:20 awake time for Jeff.  Official sunrise 6:58 am.   Bagel breakfast with a few pretzels at wake up.  Janie awoke around 7 to read and relax.

Chiefs vs Bengals at 8 am Hawaii time which is a little strange.  Unfortunately we lost in a wild ending.   Refs were questionable. 

Waimea at the Hawaiian Style Café for lunch.  Recommended for their pancakes.   Hour wait and one of the last in for the day.  Janie got the pancakes with banana and macadamia nuts.  I got the omelet with Portuguese Sausage and Mushrooms.   The hash browns and Waffle were bonus.  Way too much food for sure.

We grabbed some gas and put on sunscreen and headed out west and then north.  The mountain was 3500 ft at the peak.  Green and in the clouds.  Great views and lots of ranches.  Our goal was Pololu Valley overlook.  Lots of windy roads and one lane bridges.  

What a view from the overlook of ocean, cliffs and black Beach.  Jeff made the mistake of bringing in Janies tennis shoes, so only half way to beach due to Janie hiking in sandals . Awesome views.  We have another similar trip planned.

We now have the southern and northern ends covered.  Upon arrival back at hotel we opted to check out the pool.  Beer, rum and bourbon packed we hit the pool.  No sun and an hour later sunset.

Back to the room to plan tomorrow and eat leftovers and snacks.  Great day despite chief's loss.
